They say that earlist source that mentioned Babylon is said to be a tablet from the reign of Sargon of Akkad. This tablet states that it was Sargon that bulit Babylon and also another chronicle says that Sargon “dug up the dirt from the pit of Babylon.”

The first Babylonian Dynasty was estabilshed by Samu-abum but it controlled little of its surrondings before Hamurrabi toke controle. Hamurrabi is known for putting the laws of Bablyon in writing in The Code of Hamurrabi. Then Babylon was affected by the rule of Assyrai.

Then when Babylon was following under Nabopolassar they were able to break away from the rule Assyrai, and that started the Neo-Babylonian Empire. With its independence back Nabopolassars son, Nebuchadnezzar II, made Babylon into one of the wonders of the ancient world. He ordered the reconstruction of the imperial grounds and construct the Ishtar Gates. Nebuchadnezzar II also had the Hanging Gardens of Babylon constructed, which is one of the seven wonders of the world.

Then Babylon fell the the army of Cyrus the Great, which started the rule of Persia over Babylon, and Babylon became the capital of the Persian Empire. When Darius III was king Babylon was conquered by Alxeander the Great and that started the Hellenistic Period which Babylon was complete desolation and obsurity.
